My SATA drive is experiencing a very unusual issue.
Hello, I own a brand new Supermicro workstation setup. It comes with 128GB DDR5 RAM, one old SATA mechanical drive (Western Digital Black, 500GB), two Crucial 4TB SSDs, and a Corsair 850E. It has been running smoothly for about two months until suddenly it stopped powering on completely. The motherboard displays no power signal. I upgraded to a Gigabytes 850W power supply from my gaming PC, and I can see the LED lights blinking while it powers up. After a short time, the old mechanical drive began smoking, so I disconnected the power supply right away. I swapped it out with another mechanical drive, but it continued to fail. It seems all four mechanical drives were affected, though I used the same power cable and SATA connections consistently—only the SSD with the same port works properly. The system boots normally now. Anyone have any insights on this issue?
