My PC’s performance is slow when playing video games that are officially compatible.
Greetings! I recently reinstalled Spider-Man: Ultimate, Spider-Man 3, and Spider-Man: Web of Shadows to revisit these classic titles. I completed Ultimate Spider-Man, though I experienced some frame rate fluctuations in certain areas—I was content with the 30 frames per second. I then began Spider-Man 3, only to be astonished by the persistent and severe lag from the outset. Despite exceeding my system's recommended specifications, as confirmed by CanYouRunIt (a tool for assessing computer compatibility), I encountered constant frame drops, even while simply walking. Subsequent attempts with Spider-Man: Web of Shadows resulted in similar performance issues. Consequently, I sought assistance here regarding this frustrating problem. Below are my computer details:
CPU: Intel Core i3-5005U @ 2.00GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Operating System: Windows 7 (64-bit) – I prefer this version.
GPU: AMD Radeon R5 M330 and Intel® HD Graphics 5500 – I am unable to change this configuration if desired, and your help would be appreciated.
It appears that the Intel graphics card is utilized during Spider-Man 3 gameplay. To ensure your Radeon card functions, you must manually enable it within the game settings while playing Spider-Man 3. This can be accomplished by accessing your Radeon control panel and designating Spider-Man 3 as a supported application for the card to operate correctly.
Here are three considerations:
1) If you're using a laptop and its Radeon graphics card for gaming, it requires the power adapter to be connected to a wall outlet; otherwise, it will automatically utilize the Intel integrated graphics processor (which is subpar and mainly suitable for older games) when running on battery power.
2) Although the suggested specifications for those games may be correct, I suspect that website doesn't account for the system’s operating software, which would increase the needed specifications slightly.
3) Are there any issues with overheating? Use HWINFO to monitor your CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming.
I’m particularly concerned about point number one, but I also want to consider point number three. It's important to verify that your processor and graphics card aren’t exceeding safe temperature limits during gameplay.
The laptop is always plugged while I play. The laptop is not overheating (I got it dusted one month ago) and I make sure that before I play I close almost all apps that might slow things down. One thing I need help with is forcing the AMD GPU to get used. I have been trying that all day.(From around 2 PM to around 2 AM, which is right now)I used so many methods that I made a mistake and uninstalled all my Display adapters drivers and had to use 1-2 hours trying to fix that. Right now I am really tired for doing this all day AND I also slept 1 hour and a half so I'm going to give you a few screenshots to see the control panel.
First I tried to start the game and use the AMD control panel and put it on high performance, it kinda works, reducing the lag but it stops after a few seconds and goes back to normal
This is what I do (the game is called Game and I set it on High Performance)

This is all I can do right now. Thank you for responding and I hope you can help me!
Are you certain your display drivers are activated? Examine all settings concerning graphics and also any power-saving configurations.
Navigate back to Windows Power Plan and investigate the advanced options within the High Performance power plan for anything pertaining to the integrated graphics processor/graphics card.
Have you attempted running more current or recent games, and does the issue persist?
I attempted to access the BIOS settings. I shut down my computer and repeatedly pressed the Insert/Delete keys until I reached the Boot Manager, but it only displayed two choices: “Start Windows 7” (or a similar designation) and to perform a system integrity check.
I launched a newer game and discovered a novel feature—however, it still failed to preserve high performance settings.
The system identified my dedicated graphics card as being listed below the process name (dnftm, the game in question).

Here are the power options displayed:

Please disregard the display settings screenshot. Following some adjustments to these configurations, my games ceased functioning; therefore, I will upload a revised screenshot.

Let's consider reverting the changes to improve efficiency. Regarding the R5 M330, its power usage is elevated; therefore, disabling energy-saving features is advisable. Enhancing performance would encourage the system to utilize its integrated graphics processor more frequently.
Now, let’s examine the Lenovo Energy Management section.
The issue you're experiencing could stem from a poorly configured system.
Would you be able to test with more current games? The titles you've described are several years old, and the laptop is from 2015. A newer game might exhibit different behavior.
I possess a video game dated 2009 that performs adequately. It's titled Prototype, and I also own Prototype 2, although it runs poorly. Furthermore, I have Burnout Paradise from 2008. I avoid purchasing newer titles due to their sluggish performance, and I considered that my laptop’s graphics processing unit might be configured incorrectly, prompting me to seek advice here. Lenovo's power management primarily addresses battery longevity; examining the settings has not revealed any conflicts. My only potential adjustment would be to set the GPU performance to its highest level, though that’s essentially my only choice.
Let me clarify my interpretation of this situation… The R5 330 processes Prototype 1 and 2 adequately, though performance is limited by a need for enhanced hardware. When attempting to run the Spider-Man titles, they utilize the Intel integrated graphics processor instead. If you encounter power-saving settings within LEM, adjust them to prioritize performance over conservation. Similarly, review any power settings in your prior communication and disable energy-saving features – this will encourage the use of the igpu. Disregarding power conservation will result in elevated temperatures, so monitor those closely. Should these steps fail, the root cause may lie within Lenovo’s BIOS configuration.
