My new computer is consistently crashing during gameplay after only a few hours.
Approximately one week and a half ago, I purchased a new Cyberpower desktop computer. Following approximately four days of operation, a problem arose necessitating a reinstall of Windows 10 to resolve it. After this action, I am experiencing difficulties with other components of the PC. Specifically, my graphics card is overheating significantly. Although I haven't measured its temperature during freezing instances, the exposed portion of the GPU behind the computer becomes intensely hot to touch when it locks up. Following this freeze, my system completely freezes, unable to close the game window. I’ve extensively searched online forums and found no solutions precisely matching my situation. Below are the specifications of my system: Processor: i7-9700k, GPU: GeForce RTX 2070, RAM: 16GB DDR4, PSU: 600w 80+. It’s likely that this information is sufficient for diagnosing the problem. I am happy to provide further details if required. It’s also worth mentioning that I'm running the game on a 50-inch display, at maximum settings with an output of 100 frames per second. There are no noticeable frame drops before the sudden and complete freeze occurs.
Another individual concurs with my doubts regarding the power supply unit. I had considered this possibility, but refrained from suggesting it to others. It seems remarkably basic and lacking in detail, at least according to my assessment. It merely indicates a 600-watt output even when showcasing computer specifications. I’ve become aware of CyberPower units that reduce power supply wattage to lower the overall cost of a system. Therefore, my conclusion is this: I am uncertain about its true capacity. Nevertheless, it functioned adequately without experiencing any temperature problems prior to my Windows reinstall.
I suspect the power supply unit (PSU) is the problem. It’s an EVGA model with 80+ certification and a 600-watt rating, which is generally regarded as poor quality for PSUs. Nevertheless, I’m eager to investigate alternative solutions to avoid purchasing additional components for a computer that cost me $1500.
Additionally, several devices listed in my “other devices” section within Device Manager are displaying a yellow exclamation mark. Could updating the drivers for my motherboard resolve this, thereby addressing the underlying problem? If so, I’m prepared to share the available driver updates for my motherboard after researching them last night. However, I didn't apply any of them because there was no information detailing what those updates would actually change.
Thank you!
