I possess an Asus R558UQ with an i5-7200U, 8GB RAM, and a 940MX 2GB DDR5 GPU. I have experienced consistently lower frame rates than anticipated for over a year, observing gameplay videos featuring similar hardware exhibiting superior performance. I have implemented the latest drivers, utilized the dedicated GPU, and recently performed a thorough laptop cleaning and thermal paste reapplication after three years – this improved temperatures but did not resolve the FPS limitations. For instance, I struggle to attain 30fps in FC4 at mid to high settings at 900p, with temperatures typically ranging from 70 to 80°C following the laptop maintenance. What should I do?

Laptops quickly become obsolete. I believe laptops are unsuitable for gaming. Unfortunately, they cannot be upgraded. Consider adding a solid-state drive if possible.
