My Dell Latitude 7480 with an i5-6300u kept freezing hard so nothing worked. I figured out why because of a bad fan, so I ordered a new fan and heat sink plus thermal paste. After installing everything while the bottom cover was off, the fan started spinning when I turned it on. At first, I thought all systems were working fine. But after putting things back together, stress testing showed temperatures jumping to 50 or 60 degrees with no fan spinning at all (zero rpm). I guessed maybe I messed up a wire connection and that the fan had no power, but when I shut it down, it spun up for a split second before turning off completely.
