My internet speeds are being limited by ASUS RT-AC86U.
I use virgin media super hub in modem mode with an ASUS RT-AC86U when connected directly to the router. I see around 380 Mbps down 36 upload. The speeds are consistent with ASUS, though they fluctuate sometimes. I think it’s because of bandwidth caps for devices like a PS4. I’d like to disable that restriction so both my PC and PS4 get full bandwidth, and anything else doesn’t matter. Right now I’m getting about 120 Mbps, which is decent. I’ve set it up through a network switch with my PS4 and PC, turned off the firewall and QoS settings, but it still stays low.
What speed plan are you subscribed to with Virgin Media? Make sure the VM equipment isn’t handling NAT/DHCP/WiFi. If you’re not using WiFi, consider ditching the AC86U entirely and plugging the modem directly into the switch for your PS4 and PC to get internet access. Try disabling AiProtection and rerunning speed tests over Ethernet.
I'm on the 362 package, which sometimes improves my connection. I'm not sure if I'm new to this setup. The router is already wired in and it really boosts the Wi-Fi performance around my home and yard—definitely worth it. I'll give it a try now! *EDIT* It seems AiProtection was already off, so I'm running speed tests now and everything works at full speed. It feels like the connection is consistently limited to about 120mbps, which makes me think there might be a speed cap affecting my internet.
