My internet is really slow, so Steam downloads feel super slow.
When I try to download stuff on steam, it takes way too long. It's taking over 20 hours for a game like cyberpunk 2077. My average internet speed is about 7 Mbps, but it keeps dropping down to zero. My internet speeds are 845 Mbps from Ookla and 430 Mbps from fast.com. My steam download speed isn't capped; I've set it to the right region. I tried reinstalling Steam, clearing the download cache, updating my chipset and network drivers, checking DNS, and changing it. But nothing has helped anything. My roommate on the exact same connection has no issues with his newer pc so i'm wondering if there is some kind of hardware issue that causes this? I have an intel i7 8700k, rtx 2070 super, asus tuf z390, 32 gb of ddr4 ram, a samsung ssd 970 evo with 500gb and a seagate barracuda 2tbd. neither of my drives are anywhere near full i've tried everything I found online and i cant fix this.
So - only Steam is affected? Then you can rule out hardware issues. Any other issues on that computer ? Have you checked firewall rules/settings? Tried to disable Windows firewall (only briefly) ? And - important question : Are you in control of the router / owner of internet connection ?
What else could be causing this? I only use Steam for downloads, streaming works well, and files from the internet download fine too. I checked once before turning off my firewall and it didn't help. I control the router so my roommate's connection is the same as mine. His friend has a brand new 3k pc but he never gets problems downloading on Steam.
