Over the past year, my computer has exhibited erratic behavior, most notably with excessively loud fan noise even when performing simple tasks like browsing Chrome. A technician at Best Buy remotely accessed my system and applied an Adobe update, subsequently providing me with antivirus software that briefly improved performance – only to revert back to its previous issues. I then had my PC examined and a fresh installation of Windows 10 performed, resulting in smooth operation for a short period. However, the problem soon returned, manifesting as persistent loud noises and sluggish gaming performance. I suspect that downloading numerous questionable ROMs from unreliable sources, due to Nintendo’s strict policies regarding Wii content, may be the root cause. I am genuinely seeking an understanding of what is causing these recurring issues.

This computer is a pre-built system.

Its motherboard is a Sabertooth 990 FX 2.0, its graphics card an RX 460, and its central processing unit is an AMD FX 8350 with eight cores. It utilizes DDR5 memory, and I believe it has 16 gigabytes of RAM installed. I routinely clean the fans, yet the problem persists, suggesting an internal fault. Furthermore, my Spotify application malfunctions, and Task Manager reveals numerous instances of Google Chrome open despite only one tab being active. During idle time, the system produces a loud and disruptive sound. Initially, when I initially constructed this PC, it performed Overwatch at optimal settings with minimal fan noise, but now it sounds like a jet engine while simply browsing Google Chrome.

As a former PC enthusiast, I’ve encountered this issue previously. My solution involved removing my fans—unscrewing them and then reattaching them securely. Additionally, I eliminated unnecessary applications and ensured my drivers were current. A helpful tool for updating drivers is Driver Easy; you can find instructions on YouTube—it’s the most effective program I've found.
