I can't move any slider except for voltage, so it does nothing. The only thing I can change is the fan speed, but everything else stays grayed out. It shows core clock and memory clock at 0 MHz even though the slider is maxed out. I tried MSI Afterburner and it works fine, but I can't increase voltage. Any help with that? Specs are: PSU Segotep 500W, CPU i5-6500 3.20GHz, Mobo Gigabyte B150M D3H, RAM 8GB 2133 single channel, GPU Gainward GT 9600 512MB (I know I'm trying to upgrade), and drivers are 342.01 WHQL with BIOS version 62.94.82.00.00

after digging around, it looks like my guess was correct. It's just an really old card, so the limits are tight. From what i can tell, you generally cannot raise voltages to whatever you want. You can only tweak the core speed and the memory speed (but be careful with the memory, since it probably won't handle any changes well). If you use the old RivaTuner software from way back before MSI Afterburner was all that, you can also change the shader clock if you're interested in doing so. Disclaimer: warning: If you use this program, you do it at your own risk, and any bad stuff that happens is on you and i won't blame anyone. This post is about overclocking that specific card using...

Well as you noticed, you can't do much with EVGA Precision X because it's not built to handle old computers, but MSI Afterburner is okay if you tweak some things. Open up its settings and make sure that box lets you unlock the voltage slider. Then also check the boxes so your main app window shows real-time clock speed and voltage changes on screen.

no matter what i do msi afterburner won't let me change the voltage. The only thing that seemed to work is this link from asus forum: "voltage control" in MSI Afterburner. But when i tried it, the voltage got unlocked but i can't move the slider and it says 1010mv and it won't go up anymore

Make sure you have the latest beta. If not, here is the link http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/vga/MSIA...2Beta4.zip Take a look at this screenshot to see the unlock voltage option. If this option is available to you, check mark it and try using the different options in the drop down to see if one of them allows you to adjust the slider. Also note the "voltage monitoring" option right below the voltage control option, if this option is available to you, enable it in order to get real time voltage information in the software. On top of that, if the next option down labeled "force constant voltage" is available, try check marking that option as well.

well, it looks like this card is way too old for new times. Does it use external power cables from the PSU, or does it just take its electricity directly from the PCIe slot in the motherboard?

It's connected with a six-pin plug.

After digging around, it feels like I was right. It's just a really old card, so speeding things up is pretty limited. If you look closely, you probably can't boost the voltage much. You mostly have to speed up the processor and the memory chip (which might be risky since they aren't built for that kind of stress). If you use the old RivaTuner software from back in the day (before it got merged into MSI Afterburner), then you can even tweak the shader clock too if you want. Warning: Using this program means taking full responsibility, so anything bad happens on your own and I won't blame you. This post is about that specific card using the older method.
