Operating a 64-bit Win 10 system with 15-3300 PCs here. Graphics are on board. Plex Media Server is installed, with roughly 6TB of internal space. No RAID configuration. It doesn’t handle HEVC video encoding well in Plex, though it can play it elsewhere. Whenever I watch a movie in Plex (HEVC), I have to convert it to 264, which puts a strain on the machine. This was manageable before, but after using it recently, I noticed an issue. This is significant. The processor I checked runs around 2.5GHz at full load, and I won’t verify the official specs since it’s not my concern. Now, after about seven hours of playing How I Met Your Mother in HEVC, it reached a maximum of 1.7GHz in Task Manager. This stuttering is frequent, but it’s the first time I saw it in Task Manager. I assumed it was due to transcoding without a GPU, but now I’m concerned it might be affecting the CPU over time. I’ve never seen it exceed 2GHz while Plex runs. Restarting could help, but I’m puzzled by the behavior. I noticed this about four hours ago, and you’re being sarcastic if you think it’s never gotten worse because of heat issues. My main worry isn’t the stuttering itself, but whether this long running could damage the CPU. My dad said that, and he’s definitely not a PCM expert—he’s more into MacBooks and M1 chips. This shows how far he’s strayed from the PCM community. He’s 50 and dealing with a lot of pressure; I don’t blame him, but I’m worried. Fun fact: while writing this, my system is still buffering, so I have no clue what’s happening.
