My computer has been left on for an extended period and I'm worried about it.
I spent about a month on my old PC before giving it up. I didn’t turn it off because the hard drive was old and it took a minute to boot. Eventually, I shut it down during a four-day vacation—it just wouldn’t work. Now it’s sitting there, waiting to be used again.
The only moments my computer shuts down are during forced updates or when I switch between Linux and Windows. This situation has persisted since I installed the I7-5820k in spring 2015. This period also covers running extremely demanding tasks that kept the system running for days. Servers can operate without interruption as long as they remain properly cooled. Ultimately, longevity depends on maintaining adequate cooling.
