My computer frequently shuts down unexpectedly during gameplay, and I believe my issue is unusual.
I’m experiencing difficulties with my PC while gaming; it frequently shuts down unexpectedly, or games will suddenly close and return me to the desktop. This has been occurring for the past week, primarily with Fortnite, and I’ve tolerated it because a new computer is expected around Christmas. I've been playing Fortnite on this system for approximately six months without issues until recently. At maximum graphics settings, I achieve around 50 frames per second, while at lower configurations, it reaches near 120. I’ve ensured my drivers are current through updates, though I'm uncertain if that resolved the issue. Additionally, the problem seems to have worsened over time; yesterday, crashes occurred during gameplay, but now they happen even before entering a match. I considered the possibility of overheating, but testing this is difficult since I can't consistently play. My hard drive has been checked for fragmentation, and it was found to be clean; however, the computer initiates a drive scanning and repair process when booting up, referencing my hard drive’s label. What steps would you recommend to investigate and resolve this?
My hardware specifications are:
- Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1090t Processor 3.20 GHz
- RAM: 8 GB
- Operating System: Windows 10 Pro
- Power Supply: 650 Watt
- Graphics Card: GeForce 750 Ti
- Storage: 2TB Seagate Hybrid HDD (includes Windows) and a 1TB WD Blue HDD
Update: I’ve replaced the thermal paste on both my graphics card and CPU, as well as thoroughly cleaned all fans. Despite these efforts, the problems persist. I suspect a potential issue with my hard drive, considering that I’ve already updated all drivers and observed high drive usage even when idle.
Update: My hard drive diagnostic tool didn't detect any errors, and Windows indicated no issues. When launching games, it either reaches the loading screen or lobby, then abruptly restarts without a blue screen. The resolution appears at 1920 by 1080p, accompanied by audio glitches. I've verified that display adapters and drivers are fully updated, yet the problem continues.
