My Asus ROG GX800vh laptop, which I have used for over a year last night, was working fine and shutting down as usual yesterday morning. Today at the office, I turned it on and it started up with fans spinning but no display. The screen is not coming on, there is no POST message, and the numlock light stays on. Here are the steps I tried: I opened the laptop and replaced 2 out of the 4 RAM sticks to see if that helps. After cleaning both the RAM sticks and the slots where they sit, it still won't boot. It's been a while since I changed any RAM anyway. Getting access to those specific slots has been a hassle. I also reinstalled all three SSDs without success. Basically nothing is working so far. There isn't much information about the GX800vh on Google, and I really need some help!
I am not getting an external screen. My USB keyboard keeps flickering on and off. The laptop keyboard also reacts, but it stops working right away. Caps lock never lights up when I press it, even though only the NumLock light stays shining on.
You might need to plug in another device with a TV so that the charger light turns on while you charge it, or is there something else you should know?
The problem with not having a post is fixed when I took out the CMOS battery, unplugged it, put in a charger, and turned it on. The laptop did power cycle a few times but still didn't show up until Windows loaded. After forcing me to shut down again, I went to Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, I removed my Nvidia display drivers and restarted. Now I login normally and try to install the driver again. But during installation, the screen goes black while Windows runs in the background. I tried a couple of times but got the same result. Also, this laptop had two Nvidia GTX 1080 GPUs running in SLI. Device Manager shows one GPU with a yellow error icon. When I try to open the Nvidia Control Center, it says no display is attached to that GPU.
Update: My laptop worked okay for two days. Then, when I turned it off normally, it started back up tomorrow and showed the Windows logo with a black screen. I could see the ROG BIOS logo on the screen. Soon after showing the login screen, everything stayed black. When I forced shut down or reset the clock by holding the power button for 40 seconds, nothing helped. I only managed to get into Windows Safe Mode even though the display was dark. After that, I removed and replaced my display driver and then tried to boot normally with a Microsoft Basic Driver. That fixed everything right up until the next time I installed an Nvidia driver. While installing it, there were two flashes on the screen during installation, and when the process finished, I got a black screen with a failure sound. Even after forcing a shut down or restarting, this didn't go away. When I tried Safe Mode > Remove Driver > Install Windows again, everything worked perfectly and there was no black screen. After that, I checked my GPU-Z program to see if all the graphics info looked normal, and even ran Heaven Benchmark for half an hour and it worked fine. Then, my laptop started running normally for two days straight, but then the same thing happened again. Yesterday, I found out that my laptop wouldn't start when using only the battery and the fan was spinning very fast while the keyboard light was on. When I plugged in the AC power, it would eventually start up after a few minutes without any error message about starting. But if I unplugged the AC while the laptop was running, I got a black screen with Windows still showing. After that, when I cleared my memory (CMOS) and changed the CMOS battery to a new one, this problem repeated again. The battery charges and discharges fine, and the health of the battery is actually good. Note: ASUS Gaming Center tells me an error message saying BIOS > Default > Save because I did that. Even though I clearly didn't change anything or overclock my settings, the laptop says Overclock Failed when it tries to start. It even says that over time without being docked, it gives this error message too. I want to take this laptop to a repair shop but am scared they will try to reapply paste to the chips without care and burn the board down. This is in Bangladesh after all. Any advice would be appreciated. I don't understand why no one here on forums helps me with this problem sadly.
