I’m primarily a Linux user, but for these tests, I relied only on Windows to limit potential complications. At the end of last year, I upgraded my setup with a 7950x motherboard, Gigabyte Aorus Master X670E, Corsair Vengeance RGB Black 32GB DDR5 (CMH32GX5M2B5200C40), additional fans, and a Lian Li O11D XL case. I retained just SATA drives, an M2 drive, my 2070 Super MSI GPU, and the power supply unit. I assembled the system and it worked well for a while, though there were some issues—like needing to downgrade RAM speed if upgrading to 128GB, and a slow boot time initially that improved with updated BIOS drivers. I also swapped in an FE 4080 to replace my 2070 Super, which functioned without problems.

After some troubleshooting, the main hurdle came when my PC wouldn’t boot at all in November. After extensive debugging, I discovered the M2 drive was no longer being recognized. This occurred regularly, and the only solution was resetting CMOS and briefly disconnecting the power supply. It was frustrating, but I was prepared to repeat this process a few times each month. Curious, I ran an extended memory test and everything appeared normal. Smart checks on all drives passed, and I tested various BIOS versions, including beta releases.

However, another issue emerged: after rebooting, if I played Forza for a short time and then exited, the GPU driver would crash, displaying five errors in the event viewer (codes 14 and 10). The only settings I adjusted were XMP, virtualization, and rebar.

You have the Asus board working for a short period, then it crashed again with the same error messages. It seems like you now see two of these errors in the viewer instead of the usual five, though they look identical to before. You’ve just replaced the RAM today and are checking to eliminate that possibility, but you’re feeling uncertain.

Since then, I received a fresh RAM module and it functioned properly for eight days. I thought I had resolved the issue, but after putting my old RAM back in, it crashed again. The next day I replaced it with the new one, and it didn’t fail. It lasted five days on the original RAM before finally failing. That gave me confidence—it might be time to stop pretending. I installed the new RAM and experienced another crash within a couple of hours. This happened about a week ago. Later, I discovered a peculiar issue in Forza. I consistently crashed the GPU driver, and for that reason, Forza by proxy also failed. It required raytracing at maximum settings and starting photo mode at race start to trigger the crash. Whenever I tried it with someone else’s identical setup—same Windows version, driver, game, and specs—I couldn’t reproduce the problem. I even tested their configuration, but only when they enabled raytracing could I get the same crash. This might be useful because it matches the exact crash I’m experiencing now. I also purchased a UPS to eliminate that possibility, but it didn’t help.
