I'm not well versed in WoW, but I can still be efficient with just one player. There might be some automation or botting involved.

A single keystroke is copied across every account or box, ensuring they remain uniformly the same class and function.

I would choose as many cores as feasible since those instances aren't really connected together, allowing them to operate independently and potentially scale effectively with additional cores. That being said, I don’t have any experience with WoW or anything similar, but from a technical or theoretical perspective, more cores are the right approach.

You are playing at the same time, using tools such as ISBoxer which actually sends your keys to all World of Warcraft Clients during the early days of Multiboxing Autohotkey, and so on.
It merely transmits your input to every client, not just one.
There’s no automation involved (it’s permitted in every major MMO because it doesn’t count as botting).
(He explains Multiboxing much better than I have, since I’ve only wanted to join for years but didn’t have the budget for the necessary hardware.)
You’ll find numerous videos from multiboxers over the years.
Regarding effective play – you can accomplish things on your own, whereas a raid group of 20-40 people would normally be required, and in PvP it’s just amusing x)

it isn't botting since you retain control over them (botting means you just program the character to act, and that's it, with no influence on the character)
and to be effective you should "clone" the action, which isn't permitted in WoW
round robin remains the preferred method, though I’m not sure if it violates the game’s terms of service, because with round robin you don’t "clone" – you have to repeat an action several times so all your windows can perform the same task as your main
