I'm trying to boost my RX 480's performance for better gaming quality. Recently, I reached around 60 FPS in Dota, but still struggle with smooth gameplay in Player Unknown Battlegrounds even at low settings. I upgraded my RAM in hopes of smoother frames, though it hasn't helped much. I've looked up overclocking on Google but found few guides for the X Gaming 8GB model. I'm hoping to get some advice here. Right now, the settings are set to default with overclock mode enabled under the MSI gaming app.

Consensus is that a CPU bottleneck is likely at work (though I wouldn’t anticipate such poor performance in Dota). PUBG demands significant CPU power, so this would be a disappointment for gameplay. Optimisation patches in the future might improve things, but it’s unlikely to be resolved soon. The best solution would be upgrading to an i5 7xxx or even a Ryzen 1500/1600, which should work well with your GPU and let you run most games at High/Ultra settings in 1080p at 60 FPS with your RX 480 8GB. Overclocking the GPU won’t make much difference, though the CPU could offer some improvement. It won’t fully resolve the issue no matter how far you push it. Hope this helps

The remaining part of your system clearly indicates a severe CPU bottleneck from the start.

you wish to boost your cpu's speed. reaching 4.0ghz would be quite high.

You might consider boosting the processor speed, but it's not worth checking if the GPU is limiting your performance.

They often played much worse in games compared to the older models from two generations back. In fact, the CPU in these 8120s was actually weaker for gaming than the newer AMD CPUs that are 11 years old, and it performed worse even when first launched.

Agreed this situation points to a CPU bottleneck (though I wouldn’t expect such low performance in Dota?). PUBG demands a lot of CPU resources, which would be disappointing for that game. I hope upcoming optimization patches will improve your experience soon, but I’m not holding my breath as it’s almost here. The best solution seems to be upgrading to an i5 7xxx or even better a Ryzen 1500/1600—they’ll work well with your GPU and let you run most games at High/Ultra settings in 1080p at 60 FPS with your RX 480 8GB. Overclocking the GPU won’t make much difference, though the CPU might help a bit but it won’t solve the issue completely. Hope this helps.

Really enjoy the Ryzen, but it doesn't work with my motherboard
🙁
