Hello, I’m trying to craft a brief tale for you. Recently, I switched to a brand new Ryzen setup after years on an AM3 machine. I was thrilled with the upgrade and even bought a matching case. My system specs read: CPU – Ryzen 7 5800X, Motherboard – MSI MGP X570 Carbon Max, PSU – Corsair RM850X, RAM – 32GB Trident Z Neo, fans & cooler – Lian Li and Noctua NH-12U, plus two NVMe drives. I installed everything into my Fractal Meshify C, but Newegg said the case was backordered, so I moved the new build into my old one. When Monday arrived, Windows was set up, drivers were downloaded, and I could simply swap cases.
Today, on Monday, the new case finally arrived. I handled it gently, swapping everything carefully. I opted to repaste the CPU just to be thorough. After rearranging cables and ensuring all connections were secure, I powered it on. The fans whirred, lights blinked, and the GPU LEDs lit up. Everything functioned perfectly. My manual mentioned “super io initialization,” so I figured maybe the board needed a moment to process.
After a few minutes, nothing happened. I followed the instructions: unplugged all power cords from the motherboard and GPU, reinstalled everything, replaced the GPU, and cleaned the CPU with fresh thermal paste and CMOS. I even reset the jumper settings. All USB devices were disconnected, and only power was connected. I started the PC with one memory module, then with just the power cord—nothing else plugged in. After a short wait, everything worked.
Code 99 appeared on the screen. The debug light turned red on the CPU. Why would swapping cases cause such trouble? I checked every step: I’d placed everything carefully, avoided static, and never touched the motherboard’s PCB. I used VRM heatsinks and kept things clean.
I tried an OS update in BIOS, but it reset itself after a reboot. The PC started up normally, and the BIOS handled the reset. When I turned it off and back on, Code 99 stayed.
I have a debugg light that’s red, and I’m not sure what to make of it. How could a simple case change lead to such issues? I was confident—everything was built properly, just on a wooden table, with no static.
I’m waiting 24 days for an RMA, hoping things will be okay. But I’ve heard bad stories from Newegg. It feels like my mistake. Still, the PC worked fine before the swap. The PSU looked brand new—four to five months in, bought brand new. All original cables were used. The CPU pins and socket were clean and straight. I reinstalled it three times, but Code 99 persisted, with no display issues.
