Hello, yesterday I planned to upgrade my CPU from a Ryzen 5 2600 to a Ryzen 7 5800x. I was using an MSI B450 Gaming Carbon Pro and did some research before making the change. I installed the BIOS update just before swapping the parts. After the swap, I noticed no display and the CPU indicator stayed red. I watched some tutorials and figured I might not have fully seated my RAM. I adjusted the sticks and the BIOS loaded properly. I felt excited but when I tried to save and restart the PC it immediately reset the BIOS. I attempted to reset the CMOS on the JBAT1 headers, removed the battery, unplugged power from the motherboard, CPU, and waited 20 minutes with the CMOS out. In my previous BIOS, all boot options were clear, but now they showed generic names like "hard disk" and "USB Hard Disk." My SSD is visible in the SATA slot in the BIOS, yet I can’t see it. I’m really struggling and would appreciate some guidance since I’ve searched online and Reddit without success. Thanks ahead!
It's possible the BIOS didn't install correctly, and it looks like the RAM might not be compatible with the board. Try using the flashback function and attempt the update again with the original processor. Also, the BIOS update for the 5800X could have compatibility problems with your current RAM that weren't present with the 2600 model.
I encountered a challenge. I attempted to reinstall the old processor, but the PC wouldn’t power on. I removed it thinking I damaged the system. While taking out the cooler, the CPU was still attached with the retention arm down and pins bent. I can’t use the old chip anymore. I tried updating the BIOS using the new CPU, but it didn’t work. What do you mean by a compatibility problem with RAM?
Ryzens and related boards often encounter problems with specific RAM kits. The bent pins on your 5900X can usually be fixed by lightly sliding a credit card or a thin flat-blade screwdriver between the rows to gently realign them. Not good, but there's a remote chance it might still work. Some pins may not be crucial for limited use.
