MSI GS76 and G-Sync are display technologies designed for gaming.
Hey guys, new to the forum, but not new to forums in general. I have a nice MSI GS76 11UG model laptop with a discrete 3070 GPU. I've been enjoying games more and more lately and decided to get a larger 1440p - 144hz monitor, which is also advertised as a FreeSync/G-Sync compatible, and reviews confirming the G-Sync does work. I've been attempting to get G-sync to work with this monitor for months now, and I still can't seem to get it to work. Heres what I've learned and tried so far; The manual for my specific model; https://download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe...lish_G.pdf 1) I have enabled "Overdrive" and "FreeSync" in the monitors settings. 2) The laptop has 1x Thunderbolt 4 port and 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 port (With DisplayPort function). Both of these ports run through the iGPU though and are DISABLED when changing the Mux switch in the MSI Center to "Discrete Graphics". No graphics output at all. I even bought a high quality 8k USB-C to Display Port 1.4 cable to test. With the MUX switch off, and in "Hybrid" mode, the graphics work, but the NVIDIA Control Panel does not recognize the monitor because the iGPU is sending the signal, and therefore there is no G-Sync option. 3) I have an HDMI 2.1 port on the laptop that IS connected directly to the dGPU, but the monitor only has a HDMI 1.2 and HDMI 1.4 port respectively. I understand the HDMI 2.1 standard does support G-Sync now, so I'm curious is I bought a HDMI 2.1 to DP 1.4 cable if it would support G-Sync? I have found very few cables online that will do this, as most of them want to go from DP -> HDMI and are UNI-directional. HERE IS ONE that I found that might work, and is advertised as going from HDMI 2.1 to DP1.4, and is also a powered cabled with USB, but no confirmation that G-Sync will work with it, and for almost $60 I'm a little hesitant. I'm I chasing after something that is unnecessary? I can play MW2 at 110-125FPS stable with recommended settings, I just don't want to be missing out on an important feature that could be helping me. Thanks guys, Daniel
