MSI B550 fails to power on using a 5600G motherboard.
I purchased a refurbished MSI B550 Tomahawk Max Wifi for my husband from Newegg. He already had a Ryzen 5600G with an Asrock iX board. After assembling the system, I encountered a CPU LED error—lights were on even when fans ran. I assumed it was due to an outdated BIOS, so I updated it to the latest stable version, 7C91v27 (March). Still no fix. To confirm the board functioned properly, I swapped in the 5700x from my machine. It booted without issues and the flash update worked. However, when I installed the 5600G, everything operated perfectly. I now own an MSI X570 Gaming Edge Wifi. I’m puzzled about what to do next—should I try the May beta BIOS (7C91v281) or revert to the October 2023 BIOS that claims Ryzen 5000 support? This is really confusing! Anyone else faced this problem?
You don't need anything from that X570, just replace it with the Husband build. These kinds of problems usually fix themselves once you swap the board. It’s why I don’t really suggest used boards unless they’re a solid deal or you’re like me—forced to buy them because old platforms sometimes cause issues. Usually, just cleaning them in a bucket of water works fine.
It’s quite unusual. You might consider replacing the RAM with a different type, perhaps the 5600G isn’t compatible with the current module. Also, if you’re right, you likely don’t need any SSDs to boot into BIOS, so removing all SSDs and testing could help. It may seem silly, but sometimes it’s worth trying—especially since the CPU and motherboard function normally, which helps eliminate those as the issue.
