Hello… Need assistance moving data from an old 2TB HD to a new 2TB M.2 SSD. I’m only planning to transfer my Windows files and a few games. The game part is straightforward—just drag and drop—but I’m not sure how to handle the Windows installation. No clear guidance from search results. Thanks!

You can simply set up a new Windows installation and transfer only the necessary files, then install the required programs. There are drive cloning tools available that handle the cloning process.

Would that mean simply disconnecting the HD and using a tool to update the SSD with a USB stick? I tried to copy my HD to an SSD yesterday, but after about five hours only 30% was done (using around 1.8TB to 2TB), so I stopped. @Gokul_P

No way to move just the windows files. You can either clone your entire HDD to an SSD (remove or delete anything you don’t need afterward) or reinstall Windows on an SSD. After that, add the desired apps or copy over your games.

Typically a fresh setup is preferable as it clears out all unnecessary files. Disconnecting the HDD isn't required, but doing so can be helpful because the Windows installer tends to react negatively when another drive is detected.
