I experienced a power surge that destroyed my i7 4770 and Z87 motherboard. I’m trying to connect my old Windows 7 SSD to a new Ryzen system and want it to start up. I’m less concerned about Windows shutting down automatically since I’ll get free Windows 10 through school, but I need to access files from the SSD. Have anyone else installed Windows 7 on another machine and moved the boot drive to a Ryzen without problems?

I haven't tried before, but because the chipset differs, you'll likely need to adjust your formatting.

Booting should work fine, but for optimal performance you might need to reinstall the system. After changing from AMD to AMD and upgrading from an A8-7650k to a Ryzen 1600, even with all drivers installed, it still displayed the CPU as 4 cores/4 threads. Benchmarking showed only 4 cores being utilized, which I could confirm by checking the task manager. I tried several methods suggested on the internet, but none resolved the issue, so a fresh installation was necessary to get proper core and thread readings.

It's possible. You just have to get it back up again. I once used some tools that would ready the system for a fresh setup, but I can't locate them now.

Sure, it's okay if that's the case. I just need to remove some files from the drive and create a bootable Windows 10 installer since I don't have other Windows PCs. The Windows 10 USB creation tool works only on Windows, so I can't use software on Lubuntu to make a bootable drive. I've also noticed issues with cores/threads when switching from an i5 to an i7 and rebooting, which resolved the problem. Should I use USB drivers or a PS2 keyboard for installation? Or should I copy the OS drive to a Ryzen processor?

Windows 7 isn’t compatible with your new Ryzen setup, right? Actually, switch to a Linux live USB, transfer your data, and begin anew with Windows 10.

Perfect choice you made. A fresh setup with no problems and all files safely stored.

I haven’t managed to create a Windows 10 ISO before. I mentioned this earlier. I don’t have another PC with Windows to build a bootable USB with, and the only tool available is the one for downloading Windows 10. You can’t just get the ISO file.

When I had to move an OS to a new platform, I literally just built the new PC, booted to the tool, ran it, and then booted to the prepared windows 7 on the new platform. There's a chance it'll just work on the new build, but it'll most likely instant BSOD There are guides online to do this process manually using sysprep

This feature works only when you have access to the previous operating system on the old computer.
