There seems to be an alternative choice available. One option preserves your data while you simply update the OS, and another requires a complete system reset.

You can retain your files by upgrading to Windows 8 from 7. To preserve your data, it’s likely you should start the installation on Windows 7 instead of booting directly into Windows 8. I moved to Windows 8 from 7 without losing anything, but you might need to reinstall certain programs after the switch.

Located a screenshot. It seems you only retain windows settings, programs, user accounts, and files. They might provide more details about files.

The same issue occurred there. My origin games were fine, but I faced some problems with certain Steam games...

Performing a fresh installation every 1 to 2 years is a good idea... especially since you're switching the operating system now.

It seems you're asking about the advantages of a certain action. Could you clarify what you're referring to? I need more details to provide a helpful response.

Your HDD stays clean from unnecessary clutter, simplifies sorting through old files, and prompts you to back up data. There should be clear advantages to having a fresh installation—clean setup is essential when starting a new system, processor, or operating system.

Uninstalling a program leaves behind temporary files that gradually consume your storage space, causing your system to run slower. You also remove outdated software you no longer need, which might have been overlooked during installation. A fresh installation ensures your PC is up-to-date and free of clutter, allowing you to access the newest versions of your applications.
