Hey everyone, I've been using an external SSD for a while and was considering moving it inside my laptop to free up the Thunderbolt port for a better LAN connection and faster Wi-Fi. I'm curious if I can just drop the SSD into the M.2 slot without any changes beforehand, or if there are steps I need to follow to safely transfer it and avoid losing my files.

Your external SSD is an M.2 NVMe unit housed in a case, so yes, you can simply insert it into the corresponding M.2 port on your laptop. If not, you’ll have to create a clone of the drive on your internal storage.

I attempted it but encountered issues because the external drive was a legacy boot drive and doesn’t work with the UEFI setup. Uncertain about next steps.

Enable CSM in the BIOS. Use mbr2gpt to convert your drive. Restart into BIOS and turn off CSM to boot via UEFI.
