Hi, I just purchased a new motherboard and need help transferring my Windows 10 license. I’ve read some guides suggesting it’s feasible, but I’m unsure if I can reuse the Windows 7 activation key for Windows 10. There are articles that claim it’s possible, like this one on HowToGeek. Have you tried this before? Or am I just wasting time and should consider buying a new license?

It should work. The better option is to log in with a Microsoft account. Once that’s done, when your new motherboard arrives, open Windows and click the “having trouble activating” button (the exact wording isn’t clear, but it looks like a troubleshooting step). It will then prompt whether you’ve recently changed hardware. If yes, the license will be transferred automatically between boards.

You're welcome! This approach shouldn't cause issues as long as you're using the same login credentials across devices. The system will recognize your account, so it won't automatically select a different license key for each device.

Uncertain about this. It could let you choose the specific motherboard for revoking the license. Unknown.

I'm hoping things will work out, though finding help from Microsoft's support is really tough. I'm worried I'll spend a lot of time solving this on my own since I just got a Ryzen 5600X.
