Move games from Mac to Windows
Move games from Mac to Windows
I’m planning to set up my first gaming rig on December 24th. My internet speed is limited, so I want to start playing right away. I don’t want to re-download all my games overnight. Can I transfer the games I already have from my Mac to my PC and make Steam recognize them? If not, can I download the Windows versions ahead of time so I have them ready once I finish building? All the games should work across both platforms. Thanks!
When transferring games from a flash drive or Dropbox via OneDrive, skip this step. Doing it this way means you could simply download directly from Steam.
You cannot relocate the games to another system. Downloading PC files requires a PC. Any alternative would work... Then you could transfer them to your new setup.
You can run a Windows virtual machine without needing a PC nearby.
I'm not dual booting, so I'm probably stuck. But I have an older version of Parallels that I could install Steam on and download games from. Would it just mean copying the game files from Steam on Parallels to my new computer? Thanks for the advice!
It's simply relocating the folder. The scanner will process the existing files. You should locate your game in SteamApps/common. I can't verify it right now since I'm at work. Still, you'll find it. Every game has a properly named folder, which is straightforward.
Thanks in advance. I've started downloading three games that aren't compatible with Mac yet. Can't wait until everything arrives.
