I've faced a problem that has lingered since March 2022. One afternoon in that month I received a Windows update, and while playing an FPS session with friends, I decided it was time to resolve it. I allowed the update, restarted the system, and logged back in. When I did so, my mouse behavior changed abruptly. As someone who's been passionate about PC gaming for years, I'm used to a smooth feel from my mouse after decades of playing shooters. Once logged back in, the input lag appeared. The cursor seemed sluggish, almost as if it was sliding on ice with V-sync enabled. Tracking targets became difficult due to overshooting or missing them entirely. This issue wasn't limited to games—it affected my desktop too. By January 2023, the problem remained unresolved. After extensive research and multiple attempts, I upgraded my PC with brand-new components, but the lag persisted. I've experimented with various Windows versions from 2019 onward (1803, 2004, 20h2, 21h2, 22h2), tried different mice—wired and wireless, G-sync toggled, all new hardware, changed cables and monitors. V-sync was disabled globally in the NVCP. Despite updating BIOS, chipset drivers, performing factory resets, and even changing power outlets across different locations, the lag never disappeared. Occasionally, when I play FPS games, my aim snaps into sharp focus. Yet, once I restart, the input delay returns instantly. This behavior is unusual, and I'm unsure why it happens or how to fix it. Do you own a mouse? Have you experimented with another one? Also consider disabling "Enhance pointer precision" in the Windows pointer settings.
