I recently traveled and brought my Razer Ultimate Viper wireless mouse with a USB dongle. It functions properly at first, but after some time it starts showing USB disconnect sounds. Replugging resolves the issue temporarily, but after about ten minutes it reappears and persists. It seems to cut off briefly during disconnection, making it unusable. No other USB devices cause this problem. Changing the port or connecting the dongle to the PC works for a while, then it restarts. I've attempted to restart and adjusted power settings in Device Manager, but nothing helps. Any advice?
He friends keyboard has begun repeating the same behavior, and it looks like the external hard drive he uses is affected too. What I've tried so far: checked half of his USB ports on the PC, including front I/O, to see if rear ports were the problem. Updated chipset drivers, closed many EventViewer errors, ran an SFC/SCANOW and disabled DISM cleanup for possible fixes. Checked firmware, removed and reinstalled USB drivers, but no solution yet. Keyboard model: Logitech G213; Motherboard: MSI B650 Gaming Plus; OS: Windows 11 (currently up to date).
Could be a driver problem or a failing USB dongle, possibly early signs of a motherboard issue. It seems you've checked with a solo USB setup, which can sometimes cause odd signal problems. I noticed that whenever my mouse dongle was connected to the same USB stack as a drive, random D/C errors appeared. It turned out Windows was interfering with the filesystem inspection on the drive, disrupting the connection. The issue disappeared once I isolated the dongle in its own stack. Same applies to your friend's setup.
