Mouse disconnecting during rapid movement, following a CPU upgrade.
Hello, I’m uncertain if this is the appropriate forum for my question, particularly the CPU forum. Please let me know if I should post elsewhere. Sorry ahead of time. Here we go.
The problem involves my mouse disconnecting and reconnecting after performing a quick movement with LMB pressed, both on desktop and in games. It began after I replaced my old Ryzen 2600 with the new Ryzen 5600X CPU. Initially, I suspected a CPU/socket compatibility issue, checking numerous Reddit threads and discovering many users experiencing the same problem with AM4 sockets.
However, I’m less convinced now. I’m confident it’s not related to a cable fault—seems to resolve itself when adjusting polling rates to 125, 500, and back to 1000, and moving the cable around doesn’t help much. The issue appears stable.
My attempts so far include:
- Uninstalling USB controllers and rebooting
- Installing the latest mouse drivers
- Disabling the power-saving option for each USB port
- Plugging the mouse into every USB port on the motherboard
- Downgrading PCIe to Gen 2 from Gen 3 (initially helped, but returned after a day)
- Changing the mouse’s polling rate
- Updating BIOS and chipset drivers
Hardware specs:
- Motherboard: MB - GIGABYTE B450M DS3H
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5600X
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060
- Mouse: Xtrfy M42
Thank you for your assistance! I’m really struggling to figure this out and would appreciate any guidance as soon as possible.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
You forgot to mention the make and model of your PSU, case and the cooler used to cool that processor.
Updating BIOS, updating chipset driver to newest version
What BIOS version are you on for your motherboard? Did you clear the CMOS after you'd verified that the BIOS was successfully flashed?
Uninstalling USB controllers and rebooting
You should manually reinstall the latest chipset drivers in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator
Thank you for your reply! Your PSU is a 700W Xilence Red Wings XN054 (XP700R7), paired with an AMD Wraith Stealth cooler that came with your previous CPU (Ryzen 5 2600). The BIOS version I updated to is F65b, and I didn't clear CMOS after installation. Is this step necessary? Could it be connected to the problem you're experiencing? Also, yes, I've installed the chipset drivers as Administrator from the GIGABYTE website.
Can I still receive assistance with this? I'm really struggling right now, I've tried all possible fixes, and nothing seems to work.
I'm unsure if this will be useful, but I've discovered that connecting the mouse to another port or adjusting the polling rate temporarily resolves the problem, though only for a short time—sometimes just a few hours or minutes.
