Mouse and keyboard randomly fail to recognize inputs - which component is responsible?
The device relied on a budget ring light powered by the computer at night, which led me to suspect the USB controller on the motherboard might be the problem. With other peripherals like a USB microphone (Fantech Leviosa MCX01), this particular mic has been used frequently with my laptop without any issues.
The exact keyboard-mouse setup was used on both my own laptop and my mom's, and neither seemed affected. I own several wired and wireless mice, not keyboards, and after trying them out, none of them triggered the same problem on this PC.
I’ve checked Event Viewer multiple times, but after searching with Google, no relevant entries were found related to the mouse or keyboard issue. However, since I started experiencing problems during gameplay, I noticed distinct changes in Event Viewer while playing games on both my PC and laptop, though further searches suggest Easy AntiCheat might be involved. It doesn’t seem to be a consistent problem even when opening Edge or when the game disables it.
Task Manager shows no unusual activity. Despite reinstalling Steam and several games a few times after a full reset, the issue continues.
The PSU (Fractal Design Ion+ 2 Platinum (660W)) is original equipment, purchased new and sealed two years ago.
Both versions 2.0 and 3.0 cause problems both wired and wireless connections with the receiver. War Thunder. Although it's no longer listed, it seems to be absent now (this coincides with Easy Anticheat being removed). The only other information is that these issues persist even when opening Microsoft Edge.
Try executing "dism" and "sfc /scannow".

Attempted to resolve the issue again, but it still doesn't seem to work. The mouse and keyboard continue to freeze unexpectedly across various applications and games (Discord, Genshin Impact, Valorant, etc.). Additionally, I've noticed the motherboard's RGB controller appears damaged. Certain LEDs change colors when set to one hue, like solid amber or red, which sometimes results in bright green displays.
Turn off all screen and power savers. Disable all RGB effects. Reduce background apps and processes. The goal is to simplify the system as much as possible and see if the issue persists. If it does, gradually reintroduce elements to identify when the problem recurs. The cause might be only the recently added changes or a combination thereof.
There are many users here, but have you tried a very simple solution? Unplug the mouse and keyboard before turning on your PC, then plug them back in once you're at the desktop. This is suggested because my Corsair Straffe used to display a random light pattern when the PC booted up, making it impossible to type. I never found out what caused it.
If your mouse and keyboard are having issues, try using them long enough to open Device Manager. If Windows found them, do you see any yellow triangles next to their details?
Also, a silly question—would removing the drivers still work? I don’t use driver software on my Corsair keyboard or Logitech mouse; I just plug and play them.
I’ve already tried it before and repeated it just in case that previous attempt was accidental; it keeps happening. This time I avoided reinstalling Windows to ensure minimal impact from applications like the last one. However, running only Genshin, Discord, Edge, or even just the desktop without background processes can still lead to freezing issues.
Task Manager doesn’t appear to change much, and Resource Monitor and Process Explorer don’t clearly show what’s causing the problem.
This was my initial attempt, but it didn’t resolve the issue. The Device Manager shows no warning triangles, and I’ve reinstalled drivers on both devices multiple times—even the standard Windows drivers from their sites. I only installed device-specific drivers and apps used mainly for macros and RGB control, which still worked without problems.
