Hey everyone, I'm checking if anyone has experience with rack-mounted PoE+ injectors. Our company is planning a move to a new location and currently using older Cisco switches that lack the necessary PoE+ power for our WAPs. We're considering the Black Box PoE+ Gigabit Ethernet Injector, but we're also open to finding more affordable options. Do you know of any real-world setups that work well or have issues? Please share any tips or warnings! Thanks!

They claim lack of POE+ capability, yet most WAPs run in reduced power on POE. They turn off features such as USB, a second Ethernet port, and possibly some MIMO streams, maintaining similar performance to when using POE+.

The primary issue is the switches might be around 20 years old and haven't been used recently—they're backup units meant for emergencies. While we're tight on funds, we don’t want to waste money right now. Stopping the project would cost about $60k in our building, so upgrading to better POE injectors could save us that amount or more. I'm just checking which brands are worth avoiding and which perform well.

If BlackBox fits your budget, consider it. Another option worth checking is POE Texas—they’ve consistently delivered quality products.

Don't need to purchase an inexpensive Poe switch right now. I've tried Ubiquiti injectors before and had no issues.

I handle audio visual equipment and utilize these devices when a client's switch lacks PoE+ or PoE++ injectors. The model is PLANET Technology PD-9024G from Microchip Technology.
