I’m thinking about switching to the 12th Gen and have concerns about the new Wi-Fi antennas being too long for my desk setup. The gap between my PC and the desk is only six inches, which might not be enough. Could a shorter antenna or a different mounting option help?

You can adjust their orientation; they don’t need to be vertical to work. They’re nearly 6 inches tall when standing upright at the base.

I owned a similar item before, and it comfortably fit beneath my desk. Would the updated version suit as well?

Absolutely, the updated version works well since it isn't limited to a fixed position, allowing you to adjust the angle as needed with the stand flat.

Yes, you can position it completely flat against the base so all sides align together.

Absolutely, placing it on the side of the case and laying it flat would work well. The new units have a magnetic base which makes it easier to secure.

It's helpful to know this, as the traditional design lacks a magnetic base. Mounting it on the side of the case might resolve the problem.
