I see many requests about USB C front panel connectors, but little detail on the reasons. I'm getting a new Mobo this month with a USB C header, yet my older case lacks that port. Is it worthwhile to buy a 5.25 bay USB C tray? What’s the point of USB C? Who can suggest a good one? Are they all identical? This item costs $26 on Amazon.
Are you using a Type C connector for your PC connection? If not, skip it. Those USB Type C ports operate at 3.0 standards—check your specs. They won’t offer extra advantages beyond being a Type-C port next to Type A ones.
I have it built into my motherboard, never use it. The USB-C ports don’t work, most of my accessories are still USB-A, I connect my phone wirelessly. Those 5.25 slots are obsolete, most devices today don’t have a CD-ROM port. Unless you’re planning to use it outside the case.
They make adapters which convert that usb type-c header back into standard usb 3 header (with two regular usb 3 sets of pins) edit : sorry, here's what I meant : https://www.amazon.com/Cablecc-Front-Hea...078BQVM2X/ Here's a couple links for regular usb 3 header (20pin) to usb type c header : https://www.amazon.com/JoyReken-Vertical...08TW9S7B3/ https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Vertical-...0BK81RF9D/ The thing in your picture doesn't have usb type c connector for front panel, it has regular usb 3 20 pin connector. that thing is actually taking 2 usb 3.0 connections from the usb 3.0 header and there's a usb hub chip that creates at least those two usb type c ports in the center, so both usb type c ports share the bandwidth of a single usb 3 port probably.
It doesn’t always indicate high speed just because it has a USB-C port. You’ll need a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 connection for better performance if your motherboard supports it.
