Motherboard or CPU damaged?
Guys, I OCed my I7-8700K and messed up. I used Offset mode but entered 50 instead of 10 like someone else did. I got greedy. After booting, the voltage fluctuated between 1.43 and 1.47. I only managed to start the PC and then shut it down. Later, I performed a 4.7 GHz OC with OC Tweak thinking it would be safe. A day later my PC crashed, showing a blue screen. After testing various settings, my CPU only boots at 3.7 GHz with cache set to auto. If I try to OC it to 4.5 GHz, it won’t boot. I can still access the BIOS but sometimes there are pixel issues—some pixels turn white. If I reset everything in the BIOS to defaults, the PC still fails to boot. Bluescreen again. It seems the issue might be with my CPU or motherboard. Sadly, I think I damaged something during this process. This was my first time.
Specs:
CPU: I7 8700K
Motherboard: Asrock Z370 Extreme 4
RAM: 16GB Ballistix Sport LT DDR4-2400 CL16
Cooler: Darkrock Pro 4
Thanks in advance!
I believe the damage might be more related to the CPU than the MB.
The MB seems built to provide the voltage you specified, even if the CPU couldn't manage it properly.
