Consider the upcoming release and your needs. If you prioritize future-proofing, opt for a motherboard with the x570 chipset now. For immediate performance, the x670 chipsets on newer boards may offer better features.

It largely depends on the updates available. If X670 introduces new capabilities, it might be worth considering. On the other hand, MSI could also offer similar products to their existing MAX line, specifically tailored for the 4000 series Ryzen. Are you looking for a fresh processor or motherboard at the moment?

You might delay getting the motherboard until after the CPU arrives, so it stays unused and collects dust on a shelf for a year.

Right now I’m not looking for a new processor or motherboard. This is my first PC build, and I don’t have much budget for the CPU and GPU until October. That timing lines up with when AMD plans to launch their latest chips alongside Nvidia’s new graphics card.

In this situation, avoid purchasing an X570 motherboard at this time.

i doubt they will release the 4950x in october, given they've just release the 3950x a few months ago. they'll start the 4000 series with the 4600 and 4700 and probably some of the 4300G models or whatever. I think there's still at least a year to wait until the 4950X
