Motherboard issues after just a couple of days of operation? Signs of overheating?
I purchased an ASUS B550M-E WIFI, assembled my PC (using only the stock deepcool fan), and after two days of operation, it abruptly shut down without booting again. I attempted various solutions but no changes worked except switching to a different CPU. The motherboard also failed to power on. Any insights from others in similar situations?
What exactly have you tried? Can you list all your components? Can you describe everything that happens when you try to start the machine? do fans whir up? any noise from PSU? any lights on motherboard? ect. Please be as detailed as you can. (Stuff dosn't typically break from overheating anymore (unless something is really wrong) thanks to the strong thermal protections on CPU, GPUs, ect. not saying it isn't an overheating motherboard, just saying there are about 100 more likely reasons for what your describing to happen)
I've attempted CMOS reset, repositioned everything, swapped GPUs, tested PSU on another machine (it functions there, or at least displays American Megatrends screen when no drives are connected), adjusted PSU connections and ensured they were secure, checked RAM modules individually, reattached all other connectors (including case cables), removed HDD/SSD, tried BIOS Flashback (failed to complete due to green light issue), moved my previous PC's speaker without changing anything. System Power 9 600W 80+ Bronze A SATA HDD and a SATA2 SSD from the old machine (unformatted). Used a stock cooler in the case and on the CPU. When the system starts, fans activate and that's about all. Important points: initially, when the PC didn't boot, it emitted an unusual sound (possibly from the PSU) which ceased after several attempts to start, and before failure it produced a crackling noise while operating. I assumed a loose screw or a failing HDD, but no lights were present either.
