Hey everyone, I need to upgrade my motherboard and think it makes sense to wait for the 14th generation Intel chips. Purchasing a new CPU will put a strain on my budget, so I’m planning to go with a mid to low-end board instead. I was wondering if anyone could share some insights on popular choices in this space and what brands people tend to avoid. For example, Asrock used to be seen as a joke, but the video from Jazytwocents showed him seriously considering it over Asus—so the market has changed. I’m not sure if the big names like MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, and EVGA still deliver top quality, especially in the budget segment.

ASROCK works well for mid-range designs. The LGA 1700 models seem a bit too expensive for what they offer.

Gigabyte and ASRock usually offer the most affordable choices. They maintain dependable products as well.

They all offer solid motherboards over time, but some stand out while others fall short. The top models in each category are well-regarded, yet even within similar price points, performance varies widely. What really matters is the support you'd receive through their RMA process and the BIOS version available. Overall, the board quality doesn't tell a clear story beyond those details.

I've used several Z170 and AM4 boards from Gigabyte, and the only problem I've encountered has been resolved. (In the UK) The return process went well, and the new units are working fine on a friend's PC with media or Steam streaming.
