You're considering upgrading your gaming setup. Right now you have a 16GB DDR4 3.9GHz system with an RTX 2070 OC edition. Think about whether adding another 16GB at 3000MHz would give you enough memory for smooth performance or if a faster 3600MHz option is better for your needs.

You need only 16 GB if that’s sufficient, so there’s no point in upgrading to 32 GB. A 3600 Mhz processor will make a small difference in games, but it likely won’t justify the extra cost given your current 3000 Mhz RAM.

I've noticed that boosting RAM speeds can significantly improve performance on Ryzen processors. Some users have reported gains of 100 to 200 FPS in games like Fortnite simply by turning on XMP profiles and increasing RAM speeds by around 600 MHz.

No one achieved such a significant increase in FPS.

When I adjusted the setting from 2133 to 2400 on my old PC, performance improved by about 50 to 100%.

You're right, those gains were modest—around 5-8%. Keep the system at 16GB with a 3000MHz processor and consider boosting RAM if needed. Otherwise, just go along with it.

Currently, Fortnite offers around 60 frames per second. You're running a standard resolution and settings unless you've adjusted anything.

Have you experimented with manual overclocking on your RAM? Just because it's rated at 3000MHz doesn't guarantee it can reach higher speeds. From what I know, Zen prefers timing over frequency (though both are beneficial). If you're using XMP, the timings are likely quite relaxed based on my experience. Consider installing CPU-Z if you haven't already, and check the memory tab. It should display values similar to this, though with different numbers. (These are the XMP settings for your RAM, which are quite loose. I haven't re-applied any overclocking yet.)

Limited to 240fps with a 1750x1080 resolution, optimized for smooth playback across all low settings (ideal for comps).
