My findings came back with 33 Min, 45 Avg, and 55 Max on DX:MD 1440p at ultra quality using a GTX 1080. I ran Performance Monitor and noticed minimal activity from the drive. That means I’m going to call this article a waste of time.

Your VRAM is adaptive, adjusting unused information to prioritize what’s required. Typically, I’d expect a boost of around 5 frames per second, with no further improvement.

They likely employed 3GB cards to push data cycling. We’d see minimal benefit and suffer significant losses by using an SSD for such purposes.

Observed that relocating Just Cause 3 and GTA V to an SSD eliminated minor stuttering, though frame rates remained unchanged.

Well that is a fair point. On one hand it drives a point home: you can increase your FPS if your setup isn't up to snuff. I found an article that showed if you have a fast enough CPU with an HDD, it can match a lower end CPU with an SSD on loading times. On the other: why the hell are you driving ultra quality settings on a lower-end card? Really people, stop doing that. Do you put an aftermarket twin turbo on your Nissan Versa and expect good things to happen?

I’ve finally taken some time to check things out, and I can confirm there’s almost no change in frame rates between Overwatch and Battlefield 1. I’m running a Core i5 4670K at 4.2 GHz with an 8 GB RAM system, and I’m playing both games at their highest settings in 1440p. Fortunately, two positive outcomes emerged from this trial. First, since I tried the games on an HDD before switching to an SSD, the performance now benefits from faster loading times thanks to the SSD. Second, adjusting the “epic” setting in Overwatch automatically increased the resolution scale to about 122%, which adds roughly 42% more pixels. Switching it back to 100% lifted my average FPS from the 90-100 range up to around 135-145 FPS. For all Overwatch fans, I suggest checking your graphics settings to see if the game applies a resolution scale above 100%.
