Mommy's boot light is flashing bright red right now, so I need to check something wrong with my computer.
I went on vacation and left my computer off for a while before coming back. Now it won't start up at all. The red light on the motherboard stays lit when I try to turn it on. I can actually get into the BIOS, but it takes forever after powering on. I checked every cable connection and the BIOS sees everything correctly. Everything looks like it has the right voltage running at the right speed. My computer is an Asus Z390-E with Samsung 960 and 970 SSDs. There seems to be a greenish mark on the boot chip, but I can't tell if that's just a burn or just a signal for the first pin. I also replaced the battery on the motherboard. Not sure what else to do; this has never happened before, so it feels random. Any help would be great!
The little lights on the CPU usually mean something is broken with the RAM controller or the processor itself. You could try swapping one stick of memory into slot A2, or maybe even a whole new kit to see if that helps. If it's your BIOS chip that's bad, there is a way to fix it but not through Asus' special method called "BIOS Flashback." Since you can actually get into the BIOS menu right now, I think it would be smart to try reflashing (updating) the BIOS for your motherboard and see if that clears things up. There seems to be a greenish mark on the chip in the board, but I don't know if that is from actual burning or just a signal showing where the first pin should be. Please send us a picture so we can look at what you are seeing. When writing a troubleshooting thread, it is good practice to list all your system specs. Please write them out like this: CPU: Cooler: Motherboard: RAM: SSD/HDD: GPU: PSU: Chassis: OS: Monitor: Also include the age of the power supply besides its make and model number. And don't forget to tell us what version of BIOS is on your motherboard right now.
Hey, thanks for getting back to me fast! Here are all the specs on my computer: My CPU is an i5-9600k. For cooling it up, I used a Corsair H100i Pro 75 CFM liquid cooler. The motherboard is a Gigabyte Z390 AORUS Pro WIFI for ATX builds with LGA1151 socket support. It comes with two sticks of RAM from Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro at 16 GB, running on DDR4-3200 speed. I have two big hard drives: one is a Samsung Evo 860 1tb and the other is another Samsung EVO 870 1tb. For graphics cards, I installed an MSI GeForce 2070 with 8GB of video memory. My power supply unit came from when I put this whole thing together back in 2019; it's a Corsair RMx 650W 80+ Gold fully modular unit. The case is a Corsair Carbide Series 275R ATX mid-tower for easy airflow. My operating system is Windows 10, and my display screen is an HP OMEN 27" IPS LED QHD monitor. All of these parts were from the time I first built it back in 2019, so here are two photos showing me the BIOS version and the boot chip: one photo shows the boot chip link at https://imgur.com/l0bDT8g and another photo of the screen is at https://i.imgur.com/l0bDT8g.jpeg
