Check if the essential mods are included. For installing 3DNPC, try again carefully and follow the instructions. Since this is your first playthrough, it might help to review the guide. You’re already using those mods at the link provided. For a property in Whiterun, look for housing mods that support that region.

I've got most of it covered, but I'll also review the rest. I'm already using SkyUI.

To obtain a property in Whiterun I think you need to defeat a dragon (as part of one of the quests they provide) and gain recognition as a dragonborn. You might also have to complete certain tasks with the Greybeards first, though they’ll inform you when you can buy a home. (It’s the second option on the right when you enter Whiterun). I’ve lost track of some details since I haven’t played much lately. Living another life is something I value greatly, and the standard Skyrim start feels repetitive after going through it several times. This mod offers a way to change things up a bit. You might want to check out mod 22 on http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/top/? (nsfw)

I'll look into the mods after I wake up because it's 3 AM, and I've already defeated the dragon. I'm recognized as the dragonborn. The king—or whoever he is—said I can buy property in Whiterun or (maybe I misremembered) even get one for free. I'm trying to reach the Greybeards but can't get there.

My current mod list includes solid picks. I only accept great additions. No issues with bad content. Please understand this looks a bit differently.
