The news about Fallout 4 excited me to revisit the series. I’ve only played three of them when they first came out on 360 without any downloadable content, and I haven’t played New Vegas yet. I’m open to both games but wondering which offers the most realistic mod support.

both options perform similarly in that area. yet new Vegas feels much less reliable compared to F3. i’m talking about a 50% risk of crashing during startup without any mods or a clean setup.

I heard that's the usual advice, so I might just settle for three. Are there any major overhaul options suggested, or should I focus on smaller tweaks?

No NV is not as unstable as it used to be. I have NV with a some mods and very rarely it crashes. Also beware running F3 on 7 or 8 because you might need to some hacks for it to run alright. Get both of them because there is a mod called " Tale of two wastelands " which combines F3 and NV so you can play both by just going to a certain point in both maps and change between F3 and NV maps.

I suggest some texture enhancements. For a clearer sky instead of the usual brown, consider a few mods. The realism adjustments for sleeping and eating work well with the Nexus, so you can explore versions that suit your taste.

I focus on realism beyond visual effects. I mean mechanics that enhance survival and crafting, like adjusting enemy AI to feel more authentic.

You definitely need the texture pack; the defaults are quite poor and muddy.
