I've set up a friend's system in 2021 and it has worked perfectly until now. Recently, I began hosting a modded Minecraft server (FTBOne, also tested with All the Mods 9 which uses similar mods) on my unraid box. Now he experiences BSODs only during gameplay.

System details: Ryzen 5 5600X (stock, default PBO settings), Asus B550 Tuf (latest BIOS), Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 3200MHz (tried with DOCP on and off), EVGA 2070 Super Steps. We've updated the BIOS, chipset drivers, and performed memory diagnostics—no errors found. SMART tests with CrystaldiskInfo on SSDs passed. A full Windows stress test on CPU and memory using Aida64 lasted two hours; performance remained solid, temps stayed low.

After installing all necessary drivers (WiFi, chipset, GPU), BSODs appeared within 30 minutes. He plays other games like CS2, Rocket League, and Baldur's Gate 3 without issues. Our wife and I also have no problems. We use the same shader packs, and I've personally tested his preferred resource/texture pack.

Attached are three dump files from the BSODs he encountered after reinstalling Windows this morning. We've been working on a fix for about three to four weeks without success, so any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated.

I think the issue might be with the motherboard RAM or storage, especially the older ones that are more prone to problems. Try connecting his SSD to another working system without any boot issues and check if it boots. If storage still doesn’t work after that, swap the RAM in and verify both the DOCP and XMP settings on and off. If neither RAM is causing the problem, then the motherboard might be faulty and should be replaced.

Apologies for the oversight—we don’t have the option to exchange physical components since we’re not in close proximity.

Have you tracked device memory usage? Modded Minecraft tends to cause memory leaks, filling up quickly until it crashes. 16 gigabytes feels insufficient compared to 24 gigabytes for me. I often play for about three hours before RAM runs out, forcing a restart or causing the system to freeze due to lack of space. (Three hours usually if you're exploring and rendering chunks quickly). This problem is similar to dedicated servers. Certain packs perform better than others—it's mostly inconsistent.

He recently swapped the motherboard after repeated random BSODs without any connection between them. It was finished around 30 minutes ago, and he’s now checking if everything functions properly and won’t experience more crashes in Minecraft. Fingers crossed!

We exchanged motherboards today after he visited a nearby microcenter and picked one up without any problems. It's been roughly ten hours since the last BSD installation, compared to just a few minutes before.

It looks like the problem might be with the motherboard, not the RAM or GPU. That’s usually the biggest issue and something that often causes failures.

Great news, no need for worry about the ram. Enjoy the server!
