last week i assembled a pc for my friend. It includes a Ryzen 5 5600, 32 gb of memory, 2.5gb of storage, a 1.5tb samsung 970s drive, and an xfx 7800xt. Two days ago he opened it and configured everything without problems. When he began playing games, the system would freeze unpredictably, showing black screens and requiring a login. I thought it was a driver problem since the pc wouldn’t restart even when idle—watching youtube or browsing. We tried Apex Legends and Elden Ring, but also ran Cinebench 24 and Furmark without any crashes after ten minutes in-game. The temperatures stayed low on both the GPU and CPU, never exceeding 65°C during heavy use. I’ve attempted CPU/RAM overclocks, used DDU, updated drivers from last year, and removed RAM sticks, but the issue persists.

Checked power usage on furmark and cinebench simultaneously. It was 67 watts for the CPU and 252 watts for the GPU. This matches typical specs for Ryzen 5 5600 and a 7800X3D, well below the PSU's total of 650 watts.
Tier - E (Possibly avoid) Could indicate a PSU problem. 650W works if the PSU is good quality. However, I'm not a specialist. The power shuts off without any BSOD appears to be a motherboard or other issue, but the current PSU isn't ideal.
It seems reasonable if the PSU simply halts supplying the right power after use. Since I purchased it back in 2021 for my personal build, I haven’t experienced these problems before. I also had a Ryzen 5600x and a 3070, so power levels were similar. It’s puzzling why it’s dropping now.
Not sure how to go further, but I suggest checking the PC with a minimum tier C power supply, ideally A or B. Some tier A options are pretty budget-friendly. Also, keep in mind that the connectors might have slightly loose cables—maybe try plugging them back in.
I resolved the problem and it wasn’t a weak power supply. Before sending the PC, I was doing tests and changed the OC settings on the CPU. I didn’t reinstall CMOS and let him boot normally after Windows reset. After a BIOS reset, XMP and resizable bar are now stable without crashes. No need for an $80 PSU.
