For local networks, stick to IP ranges specified in RFC1918: 192.168.0.0 – 192.168.255.255, 172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255, and 10.0.0.0 – 10.255.255.255. Many home setups use 192.168.x.x/24, which provides 254 addresses. I prefer dividing subnets for specific purposes and assigning unique address ranges. For example: IoT - 192.168.10.x, Guest - 192.168.0.x, Main/Secure - 192.168.1.x, and Main/Private - 192.168.2.x.
