When evaluating the board's age, that might be useful. The heatsink pad should be 1mm thick, and any cushioning for the VRM should match that or be slightly thicker—up to 1.5mm is acceptable. A 1mm piece should be readily available, and you can use the same material for the chipset as well. The GPU die might also fit this setup. I’m unsure about the exact thickness but would suggest around 1.5mm padding, keeping a 1mm buffer on hand. You’ll need to rework the VRM layout when separating the cooler, so plan accordingly. Wipe down components with acetone, trim, add padding, reattach the heatsink(s), and then test. I’ll keep you updated on the progress. By the way, I’m about to repad my Crosshair V-Z—already stripped it down, just need the padding to finish.
I can't complete the task for a week or two, but I'll keep you updated once you're done. If you have any repadding results, I can share the temperature differences with you.
I'm likely to wait a while for that padding, as I haven't placed the order yet. Since it's already taken down, I can only note that it no longer triggers the chipset overheating warning. Once I receive the parts and rework it, I'll demonstrate the changes.
