Addressing the issue right away, the monoblock from the Z490 Aqua by ASRock helps chill the Aquantia NIC used for the 10 gig Ethernet port. However, since I didn’t purchase the board for a custom loop and plan not to use it, I’m concerned about its effectiveness. I doubt I’ll hit 1 gigabit speeds on any connection, but I thought someone might know if adding a heatsink would help. For those curious about why I opted for an overclocking/custom cooling setup despite no plans to use it, it’s mainly for Thunderbolt compatibility. I have an i9-10900KF and use a Thunderbolt dock for my laptop, wanting flexibility between laptop and desktop. Without integrated graphics, I needed the cheapest board with an injectable Thunderbolt port or an add-in card. I previously owned an Asus Z590M-Plus built as an M-ATX case; now it’s in a larger case and can only support Intel 10th Gen CPUs (TB3), making an add-in card impossible on newer boards. While I searched, I found an Asus ProART board for $330 new on Amazon or the ASRock Aqua on Newegg or Amazon for $130—price was key. I chose the Aqua because a full custom water cooling system is still on the horizon. I also have an AIO cooler on my CPU, but in this video someone mentioned that the included block also cools the NIC, which worries me if I skip it. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
