I don’t use Ryzen often, but a B450 board should fit. I already purchased one for my mom’s Ryzen 3 3200G, so I’m sure it will work tonight.

It hinges on your risk tolerance. Unless the motherboard received an updated BIOS from the maker, it likely won<|pad|> or new support for Zen 2. The update date was May 10, 2019. Newer models may include updated BIOS, but older versions could still work. From what I understand, this board also lacks BIOS flashback capability. For maximum assurance, consider an MSI B450 Tomahawk for ATX or a B450M Gaming Plus for M-ATX.

It seems the decision might hinge on that particular model. I was thinking about getting a tomahawk max for another system, but I paused and ended up choosing an x570 because of some odd stability problems. Do you know if that model has been updated or fixed?

Seems like you're considering this might be the optimal choice. Did anyone notice if the tomahawk max stability problems have been resolved? I checked a while back for another build of mine because of VRM concerns, but decided against it after several complications arose.

Not every Max board comes with a BIOS flashback feature.
