I don't have clear details about current mobile options for the Ryzen 5000. It seems many might need a BIOS update, but specifics are limited. You may want to check manufacturer announcements or compatible device lists.

A BIOS upgrade is needed for all boards to work with the 5000 series CPUs. No new motherboards or chipsets are coming out with these processors. If you plan to purchase a new board, ensure it mentions being compatible with Ryzen 5000 or has a BIOS flashback feature so you can update the BIOS without a CPU installed.

Unless they produce a model like the MSI X570/B550 Tomahawk Max, most stores won’t include flash BIOS updates. Some sellers may send devices pre-flashed, and the label on the package will indicate this.

MSI adjusted the MAX series to reassure buyers they received a board compatible with Ryzen 3000 chips. The MAX models came with the correct BIOS built-in for 3000 series processors.

I understand that an x570 max model supports around 5000 compatible devices.

The top choice is choosing a motherboard with BIOS Flashback functionality, eliminating the need for a separate CPU update. Even Microcenter has started releasing updated boards, and stores are preparing ahead of this trend.

You may request the retaler to display the bios prior to sending. If unavailable, visit your nearby store and display it there. Alternatively, ask your friends for a third generation CPU.

Checking for 5000 readiness will likely cause some trouble. You rarely see the motherboard cases (especially in NL) during online purchases. Also, AMD shouldn't assume any BIOS updates can be applied through flashback. It's a bit frustrating, but I suppose a motherboard with a BIOS flashback is...
