Mixing up M.2, PCIE and SATA connections.
Mixing up M.2, PCIE and SATA connections.
I’ve been studying my motherboard manual, online communities, and YouTube videos to understand this situation. My current setup includes a ROG Maximus XIII Hero CPU with 10900K, memory slots M.2_3 and M.2_4 are in use, and the PCIe slot PCIEX16_1 is occupied by a 3090FE. I know SATAG_5/6 are disabled when M.2_4 is used. I’m considering adding another M.2 slot if possible without affecting PCIEX16_1.
Here are my questions:
1. Adding M.2_2 would it change PCIEX16_1 to x8? I want to maintain x16 performance.
2. Do the unused M.2 sticks (1TB and 500GB) really matter if I use enclosures? Should I prioritize Thunderbolt or USB3.2? Is there a way to connect motherboard headers with an enclosure? I’ve seen one SATA enclosure before.
Thanks ahead for your help!
